About
Animals cannot speak for themselves.
This website speaks for them. It’s an attempt to help you see how they are experiencing what we are doing to them.
Do you love animals? Pet dogs, rabbits, horses, birds, pet fish and even pigs are precious creatures who give us a level of companionship that no human can replace in the same way.
Even if they don’t love you in the same way a human loves, it doesn’t mean they don’t have feelings. If you have ever stroked a cat until it purred or seen a dog’s tail wag with excitement, you will know they can feel happiness. If you have ever seen a cat dart off after getting a fright or see a dog whimper with it’s tail between it’s legs, will know they can feel fear too. Why do you then believe that a cow, sheep or chicken would not feel the same fear when they can see they are about to be slaughtered?
Animals – all animals – SHOULD have the same rights we humans have.
But they don’t.
Like many human cultures, races and religions since time began, animals have been subjected to cruel discrimination. They have never been able to defend themselves because humans are stronger than them.
We have guns, tranquilisers and machinery. They have claws, teeth and beaks. It is not a fair match. And because of this, we think that because we are stronger, we are automatically better. This is not true. They share this planet with us – we have no right to enslave them and we have no right to eat them.
For as long as we can remember, we have been eating animals. Why? Because a long, long time ago, our ancestors saw predatory carnivorous animals catching and eating non-predatory herbivorous animals. So we tried eating the same meat they were eating.
From there, greed, competition and commerce slowly began and now these factors have spiralled out of control. We are now so deep into it all that it’s very very hard to get out again.
Our habits are so ingrained we don’t even realise they’re there. Our shoes, clothes, cosmetics and an unbelievable amount of food is made from, or uses, animals and/or animal products.
